Hi, I’m Jasmine B! In rural TN, my grandparents learned how to carve their space in the world. My grandad was the first African-American elected to public office in his county and an award-winning civil rights trailblazer, and my grandmother, an educator, among many other careers. Throughout their lives, they maintained faith, grew as servant-leaders, and cultivated a close family.

Reflecting on the impact of my paternal and maternal grandparents has helped me realize how important capturing, knowing and telling our stories is. As a poet, foodie, filmmaker, and photographer, my art includes stories of faith, service, family, food, justice, hope, and, most importantly, love, dedicated to, and rooted in, their spirit.
